For many believers, the preferred approach to Christianity is passive; that is, they would prefer to let church leaders give them answers about their faith rather than engaging in an active pursuit on their own. As a result, traditional doctrines and beliefs are generally accepted without question.
This was the path the author followed for over fifteen years. Surprisingly, it wasn’t until she left Christianity that she began an in-depth study of the Christian faith.
Things I Never Learned in Sunday School is the result of her efforts. With nearly 200 reference notes and numerous scripture quotations, she examines the infallibility of the bible, the resurrection, the existence of Satan, the fate of the unsaved, the Antichrist, the end times, even the identity of God. She also provides extensive insight into why Paul played such an important role in establishing Christianity. The final conclusion? Many doctrines taught in Sunday School and church often have little basis in fact – and several are not addressed at all.
Some readers may find the contents of this book unsettling. On the other hand, when read with an open and inquiring mind, it could very well result in a spiritual awakening.

It took me years to break the chains of the Catholic faith I was born into, but having completed the process a decade ago, nothing surprises me about the hold that religions have on their “accepted without question” adherents. I can even empathize with those brainwashed souls who don’t have the capacity to question (much less challenge) what their religions tell them, but it’s a bridge too far when their leaders try to impose their beliefs on the society as a whole.

I especially agree with your last statement related to the “bridge too far.” Unfortunately, I don’t see things changing anytime in the near future. Hopefully, future generations will finally be able to live as they choose without “religious standards” being imposed upon them.

The thing is simple…we folks are lazy!!!
we need sleeping pills (religion and faith in a sky fairy) and a mommy (priest) to put us to sleep.
Not many people read the “original stuff”…
How many read Quran? even the ones who rote learn the quran have no idea what it says.
This pandemic of CoViD-19 has exposed all miracle claiming religions. Vatican is shut down…all priests ducking inside. Italy suffers and vatican is siting on its coffers.
Mecca closed. Hindu temples closed.
We as a species have moved from many gods to One god…and now the natural step in evolution is from One God to None God 😀

It was sort of comic relief in the early days of the pandemic, after Trump allowed it to exist, preachers and grifters damned the virus to hell, blew on it with the holy spirit and a host of other magical incantations.
Although the ecclesiastical conclave at Rome claims the power of working miracles in defiance of Nature’s laws, yet with or without miracles, they have never answered the simple arguments advanced by Jean Meslier; although they claim to hold the keys of Paradise, and bind on earth the souls that are to be bound in heaven, yet year by year their waning power refutes their senseless boast; although they boldly assert the dogma of popish infallibility, yet the loss of the temporal power once wielded by Rome, and the death of each succeeding pontiff, attest both the Pope’s fallibility and the Pope’s mortality. Indeed, the successor of St. Peter is but human— the sacred college at Rome is but mortal; and faith and dogma cannot forever resist the influence of light and knowledge.
